tako

tako is built to research the proceedings of the Parliament of Canada. It is an AI-powered assistant custom built around federal parliamentary procedure, from first to third reading through committee study and clause-by-clause.

It allows a researcher to hold the entire context of a bill in mind, with its nuances, as no person can do unaided. That context includes who argued what and why, which questions went unanswered, how each amendment fared and whose words ended up in the law.

Research for those working on a federal bill

I use tako to research federal bills for organizations, counsel, government relations professionals and journalists. Each mandate answers a question you define, and every result points to its source so you can verify it yourself.

  • Written submissions to House and Senate committees, built around the arguments a committee has heard and those it has yet to hear.
  • A profile of what a witness, organization or parliamentarian said on a bill, what they were asked and which of their requests prevailed.
  • The history of a clause, showing how its wording changed between versions of the bill, who moved each amendment, how each vote went and whose words survived.
  • A map of where the witnesses and members of a committee stand, with the arguments behind each position.
  • A measure of how a committee conducted its study, from speaking time and questions to procedural events and the attention each issue received.
  • Confirmation that something was never said during the study of a given bill, with the scope of the search stated.
  • Monitoring of a bill while it is before Parliament, with a note after each sitting and a tracker of any amendments moved.
